1915: 29th May - to Mother

2661 6th G.R.

Sunday 29/5/15

Dear Mother

Just a line on a p.c. to let you know all is well. I have been expecting a letter daily but our post has gone awry, and all of us are patiently waiting for letters to come. Please keep this view carefully as I wish to have this afterwards. They say this hall is now a complete ruin and all it is is a mass of bricks and no more

Best love

Tom

1915: 29th May - to father

Another view which is typical of some of the buildings we see here. I observed a large factory set on fire yesterday by us and today they have done the same to a house at news of our line. It makes a bit of a mess of a house when a shell drops in it. I have not yet seen a 16” and I don’t want to!

Dear Father

Thank you for the p.c. I hear all the news from home and will write  to you soon. I hope well, had a long letter from Charly yesterday dated May 11th. Please keep this p.c. if it reaches you as it is one of the many towns we have seen. All well here and good news coming through.

Good luck from

1915: 18th May - to Mother

Dear Mother

Just a P.C. to let you know I am well. This is a typical view of the mills around here. At present I’m at the base resting. It is a bit wet out, but the gardens look fresh and green. Please keep this P.C. for me as a souvenir.

Best love and good wishes from

1915: 17th May - to Alec

On active service

Dear Alec

I want you to put this with my views. Thanks so much for the letter which I’ll answer in a few days we are at the base. The cathedral in the picture we saw when we passed through some weeks ago, it is damaged by shell fire and the windows are broken in places.

Best love from

Tom
